There are 2 questions I am often asked. One of them is WHY DID YOU LEAVE PASTORING A SUCCESSFUL CHURCH FOR MUSIC WHEN OTHERS ARE LEAVING MUSIC TO PASTORING?

The second question is, AS AN ITINERANT INTERNATIONAL MINISTER OF THE WORD AND MUSIC, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MINISTRY ABROAD AND NIGERIA?

Today, I will treat the first question and handle the second one next week by God's grace.

WHY DID I LEAVE PASTORING A SUCCESSFUL CHURCH FOR MUSIC?
This is one million dollar question...

As a background, I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 1985. Few months after my salvation because of my zeal, commitment and dedication to God's work, I was appointed to take over the leadership of FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN STUDENTS ( FCS) at Ilorin Grammar School (IGS), Ilorin, Kwara State where I was a student. I also joined a Christian Music and Drama Group known as UNITED CHRISTIAN SINGERS AND DRAMA GROUP in 1986.

I continued serving the Lord as faithful as I could till I met Rev. George Adegboye (Bible Computer/Concordance).
Although I knew Rev. George before then because I had invited him to be a blessing to us at our school fellowship when I was the FCS President. I joined him alongside the likes of Rev. Victor Adeyemi (Global Harvest Church), Rev. Sam Adeyemi (Daystar Christian Centre, our class Captain), Rev. Emmanuel Olowodola (first man to pioneer a branch of Rhema Chapel and later also pioneered Rhema Chapel PortHarcourt), Pastor Love Adesina (House on the Rock, Warri), Rev. Kizito Jegede (Powervine Ministries, UK), Pastor Mike Dunamis (RCCG, USA), Pastor Peter Olowosulu (Success Way, Lagos) and a few others that started EVER INCREASING WORD MINISTERIES A.K.A, RHEMA CHAPEL ILORIN in 1987.

I must not fail to mention other great ministers I respect who also joined Rhema Chapel at the initial stage. My friend Rev. Herbert Aderibigbe (Fathernash, USA), Rev. Sam OreOluwa (Prayer Power Ministry, Ibadan), Rev. Austin Okenwa (RICA, Lagos), Rev. Afolabi Coker (King's Chambers, Lagos), Rev. Samuel Olubiyo (Triumphant Christian Centre, TCC, Lagos), Pastor Abiodun Fatoyinbo (COZA, Abuja), Pastor Korede Ipindunmi Adams (Masterpiece Assembly, Lagos), Rev. Gbenga Falodun (New Era Trinity House, UK), Bishop Yomi Olorunsaiye (House of Mercy, UK), Rev. Kingsley Alfred (Nations Light, UK), Pastor Dipo Femi Olowosulu (Healing Power Outreach, Lagos), Pastor John Afolabi (The Change Place, Lagos), Pasror Sam-Segun Progress (Greater Love Ministries, Oshogbo), Minister Tunbosun Oshatoba (Celebrated Music Minister, Baba Rhema) and a host of others.

I served in various departments at Rhema Chapel Ilorin. From Tape Manager, to Head of Deliverance, to Head of Teaching (they called me WORD PISTOL then), to Choir Leader and few other responsibilities were also committed into my hands. By the grace of God, I pioneered what is known today in Rhema Chapel worldwide as RHEMA MASS CHOIR in 1989.

When Rhema Chapel Lagos started in 1991, I was privileged to be an associate Pastor to Rev. Sam Adeyemi, the Minister in Charge and I also served in various capacities. Notably were HOUSE FELLOWSHIP COORDINATOR and MUSIC PASTOR. I served under this great and humble Pastor until I was given the mandate to pioneer a new branch of Rhema Chapel in Ketu, Kosofe LG Areas of Lagos State in 1995.

The Church grew under my leadership and we had great revival. I remember we used to host an annual PRAISE GATHERING called, PRAISE HABITATION. The last one we held recorded more than 700 people in attendance in 1997.

I was still in the euphoria of this revival and new move of God like Philip in Samaria when the Lord said, it's time to move on to the next assignment, which is LEADING THE NATIONS IN WORSHIP....MUSIC.

This was a great turn around and struggle for me because I had no savings and did not know how I will survive the next phase of ministry. During my Pastoral days, I did not remember buying ANYTHING. As a senior Pastor in Rhema Chapel, I was entitled to some benefits and miscellaneous. Church members were also there to support their Pastor. Honestly I LACKED NOTHING.

Back then before I even asked, church members were already there with gifts, but today, it's a different story. In this new phase of ministry, I have to trust God and use faith for everything, including feeding. Most times I don't even know where the next meal will come from. (Now I know why I was named FAITH).

It was when I started this new phase of ministry I realized why a lot of ministers who have no business Pastoring churches now ventured into pastoral ministry. It feels secure there at least than ITINERANT ministry.

But through it all, like the song writer put it, I have learnt to trust in Jesus, I have learnt to trust His word and I have learnt to depend upon His grace.

I left Pastoring Rhema Chapel Ketu in March 1998 to answer another call of God, TO LEAD NATIONS IN WORSHIP. I have been doing this passionately and obediently for the past 22 years.

Today, I am very fulfilled in carrying out this humble and choice assignment that has birthed several renowned and celebrated top music ministries and ministers locally and internationally. Through, TODAY'S MUSIC AFRICA MAGAZINE and the Annual LAGOS CHOIR SEMINAR AND WORKSHOP, we have repositioned thousands of Choristers, Musicians, Sound Engineers, Gospel Artistes and Choir Ministries. Our music studio known as SOUND INCREDIBLE has also churned out powerful gospel songs used in Christian gatherings today.

Time will fail me to mention several hundreds of churches I have been privileged to ministered for both locally and internationally these past 22 years. My music (CDs) has blessed, changed many lives and led countless to God's presence with healings, miracles and more passions to worship.

Today, our online broadcast, PRAISE CAPSULE is fast becoming the toast and delight of many families as they daily wait for the dosages, which has no side effects.

In conclusion, faithfulness is a major key God requires from us in stewardship. He alone determines our rewards and next levels and phases of ministry. I am here today and tomorrow I might be somewhere else. We must be sensitive to His leading and be willing and ready to go where ever He sends us. We did not choose Him, He chose us before the foundation of the earth (Ephesians 1:4 & John 15: 16)

I am glad that despite my many faults and flaws, God still counted me faithful, putting me in ministry. It has been a long journey of faith but every step has been by God's grace and mercy.

God Bless You.
