Apart from TB Joshua, Here are 7 Most Controversial Nigerian Pastors You should know

Few days ago, there was the announcement of the death of renowned preacher and the founder of SCOAN, Prophet TB Joshua on the media with the news breaking round the internet that he died in the late hours of Saturday after a ministration at the age of 57. While many have celebrated the life of the popular televangelist who shook the world with amazing testimonies and miracles done, few controvsies surrounding his healings, his prophesies and relationships could have marred the celebration. The preacher despite being the preacher with the most viewed YouTube Channel with over a million subscriber in Africa and over 5 million followers on Facebook has several controversies that have surrounded himself and ministry in the past. You can read about TEN TIMES PROPHET TB JOSHUA WAS INVOLVED IN A CONTROVERSY HERE The preacher is often not the only Nigerian preacher that has suffered controversy at a point in time as several other Nigerian preachers have also witnessed some enormous controversial situations in the past. Here are few African Pastors and some of the controversies they have been involved in: 1.       Chris Okotie: Former Nigerian artiste and pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries has been a subject of numerous controversial issues which has often ended in rifts, one of which is his frequent debate with the late Prophet TB Joshua. The preacher also condemned the idea of using face shield in 2020, claiming it would be a reversal of the veil that was broken on the day Christ died and therefore creating a separation between men and God. The preacher also was in the news for attacking and condemning the alleged role played by US billionaire, Bill Gates in the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

 2.       Johnson Suleiman: The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Apostle Johnson Sulieman has been one of the few Nigerian preachers who has been involved in several controversies including matters involving the government. In 2017, a Canadian stripper, Stephanie Otobo, gave details of how she and the anointed man of God were having an affair. Screenshots of their video calls were spread on social media, however, Apostle Suleiman discredited the screenshots saying that they were photoshopped. The father of Canada-based Nigerian, Stephanie Otobo, has denied her claim that the general overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Johnson Suleiman, went to his house for introduction as her suitor. Benson Otobo also said the controversy between his daughter and Mr. Suleman came to him as “a huge shock,” adding that he knew nothing about the entire scenario. In February, 2021 Pastor Mike Davids, who has since left the church, accused Suleiman of sleeping with his wife, Pastor Faith Edeko, while the two were working together on setting up a gospel television station for the church. He alleged that the two first had sex at a hotel where Suleiman had lodged her, and that his young daughter was sleeping in the room when it happened.
3.       Chris Oyakhilome: The Senior Pastor of Believers Loveworld a.k.a Christ Embassy has been involved in series of controversies himself. The preacher has had several controversial issues in the past surrounding his life, ministry and teachings. Issues surrounding his divorce, the 5G debacle, COVID 19 vaccines, teachings on masturbation, submission of wives along with a host of others have made the news in the time past. The Edo-born televangelist was one of the proponents of the conspiracy theory that the 5G network is what caused the Coronavirus. He is strongly against the COVID 19 vaccines and insists he would not encourage his members to take it.
4.       Pastor Biodun Fatotinbo: The Common Wealth of Zion Senior Pastor is regarded as one of the most flamboyant pastors in Nigeria, in 2019 the preacher was involved in a controversial issue as rape allegations were laid against him by celebrity photographer Busola Dakolo, the wife of popular musician, Timi Dakolo. The Abuja-based preacher alongside his wife however denied the allegations vehemently and termed such allegations as ‘trials and tribulations. A High court in Abuja justified the preacher and discarded the lawsuit raised by Busola. Apart from Busola, other ladies have since come out to raise their allegations against the preacher.
5.       Pastor Sunday Adelaja: The founder of the Embassy of God Church in Ukraine, one of the biggest churches in Eastern Europe, was banned from traveling by the Ukrainian as allegations of embezzlement of church funds was leveled against him by the leaders of the church. Apart from these, several other controversies surrounding having multiple adulterous sexual partners have also been raised against him.
6.       Rev. Father Ejike Mbarka: In 2021, the presidency alleged that the spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry (AMEN), Father Mbaka was asking President Muhammadu Buhari to resign or be impeached because the president refused to give him contracts. Mbaka was a supporter of Buhari before the 2015 general election and publicly endorsed the then-candidate Buhari. But his criticism of the president marked a change in their relationship after Mbaka called Buhari a failure, blaming him for the mounting security challenges in the country.
7.       Abel Damina: The Uyo based preacher has had controversial topics and teachings in the past and for his attacks of other preachers on sensitive topics. He was one of the preachers who stood against the tithing principle, lashing out at preachers such as Pastor Adeboye, and others who stood for the 10% giving principle. In 2020, the preacher also slammed Pastor Chris Oyakhilome for his 5G theory, saying that the preacher doesn’t know God.
8.       Pastor Ajanaku: The preacher first came into limelight after veteran singer, Tope Alabi talks about him in her songs and also acts as the spiritual father of popular gospel singer. However, they split a few months before his death, with Ajanaku accusing the singer of seeking to have sex with him. This was denied by the singer and her husband. The preacher who died in 2013 was reported from an undisclosed source that he had extramarital affairs as one of the children outside wedlock surfaced at the burial. Apart from these, another controversial issue was when it was reported that 27 Ogboni members visited his place and were said to have asked every occupant to evacuate his room.
