_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_

*TEXT:* 2 CHRONICLES 24:1-14.
_*KEY VERSE* "And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada" (2 CHRONICLES 24:14)._

Faithfulness and accountability are essential qualities required in every worker both in the secular and in the house of God. The seventy disciples came back to give account of their exploits. Without accountability, the assignment given by the leader is not yet complete.

The passage under consideration underscores the importance and influence of godly leadership of Jehoiada, the high priest, on the young King Joash. The issue of the repair of the temple came up. Funds were raised. People generously made contributions and the money was faithfully dispensed for the work of the Lord. All the workmen were duly paid for their services and those who could not fully participate in the fundraising, worked free of charge with their hands and gifts. At the end of the task, the rest of the treasure were brought before the king and Jehoiada by the faithful officers who were in charge of the account.

There are lessons to be learnt here: our leaders should ensure they promote true and righteous worship in their own time and encourage the members to wholly serve the Lord; members of the church should be faithful and accountable in any section of the work of God assigned to them. They should also be prompt in giving report to their leaders. Furthermore, believers must be faithful in giving for the work of the Lord more than the obligatory tithes and offering that all believers are expected to pay. Believers should equally be faithful in prayers, evangelism, commitment and in the selfless service of the Body of Christ.

Where all these are put in place in the church, there will be mutual trust among the brethren, progress in God's work and prosperity for His people. Let us all endeavour to be true, faithful and accountable in all that are entrusted to us.

*THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* Faithful stewardship breeds trust.

Different shades of unfaithfulness

*1. Unfaithfulness through indifference and fear*
The sons Athaliah (king Jehoram and Ahaziah) desecrated the Temple for many years and the citizens were indifferent except Jehoiada, v7, 22:2-4. This is unfaithfulness to God.
*Q* When evil assails in your church or community, what concrete steps do you take within your power to fight the evils?
*2. Unfaithfulness through neglect of responsibility*
The Levites, whose major responsibility related to the temple, did not do anything about the damaged Temple for many years and neither did they do the necessary collections according to the Law of Moses for many years, vv4-6.
*Q* Are you negligent in any work God committed to your hand under different excuses? Do you just fold your arms and give excuses? This is unfaithfulness to God.
*3. Unfaithfulness through delay in carrying out God's work*
The Levites were slow and cold in carrying out their duties, v5b. This also is unfaithfulness.
*Q* Do you perform God- given assignment with enthusiasm, zeal and timely?
*4. Unfaithfulness though directionless leadership*
It could be noticed that were it not for lack of good leadership, the people were very willing to serve the Lord, vv8-12.
When your leadership is directionless and not positively motivating people to do the will of God, you are guilty of unfaithfulness.
*Q* Do you have goals and strong motivational ability to lead others to do the will of God or you just put blames on others for your ineffectiveness?
*5. Unfaithfulness through unaccountability*
The people, from the leader to the laity, were able to account for the money given to them; no misappropriation, embezzlement under any guise, mismanagement, etc.
*Q* Are you faithful with God's money? Unfaithfulness, especially with God's money, always result in judgement.

*Prayer points*
*Confess* all forms of unfaithfulness you are convicted of and ask for forgiveness
Ask God to *eject* all forms of unfaithfulness from your inner man
Pray that the Spirit of faithfulness will *rule* your mind and spirit
Pray for all the workers in the Church that they will receive *grace* to be faithful in all areas

*HYMN* Stand up stand up for Jesus
