SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2019*

TOPIC: FEAR NOT THE GIANT*

*Read I Samuel 17:4-11*

*MEMORISE*
*When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid (I Samuel 17:11).*

*EXPOSITION*
Fear is an unpleasant feeling of anxiety or worry caused by the presence, or anticipation of danger. It is also a concern about something that threatens to bring bad news or results. It is a very serious and potent weapon that the devil uses to deal with people, careless and unsuspecting Christians, inclusive. It is different from the fear that is the respect or awe for God. It is killing (cf. Job 3:25). It is dreading something. It is against God’s will (cf. 2 Tim. 1:7).
King Saul and his men were greatly afraid when they heard the words of Goliath the giant. They feared the giant, and consequently, failed to defeat him. The arrival of David, the fearless son of Jesse, who could not be intimidated by the size of the circumstances, brought victory to Israel. A man that lives in fear sees impossibility in the face of any situation, even in situations where fear is needless, but a courageous man sees possibility and opportunity in such situations (I Sam. 17:26).
The giant before you could be that frightening circumstance on your way. So don’t be intimidated or defeated by the nature of your circumstance. When you begin to fear any circumstance (giant), you begin to doubt your God-given, Holy Spirit-fuelled ability to triumph, and also fail to see possibility in winning the battles of life.
The way to kill fear is to know God, walk with, and have confidence in Him. All David used against Goliath was God - his knowledge of the greatness of God incomparable with the stature of the giant. David was fearless because God was with him not because of the catapult and the stones he had carefully selected (I Sam. 17:43-45). After all, what could those weapons of killing mere birds do to a giant as tall and huge as multiple of himself (David)? Only God could have silenced the giant, and He did as David recognized and voiced out His awesome incomparability. Deal with that giant threatening you with the same strategy and see Him in action for you.

*PRAYER POINTS*
1. Ask God to give you a fearless heart in the face of any circumstance in life.
2. You giants against my success/breakthrough, go down like Goliath today, in Jesus' name.
3. O Lord, open the eyes of Christians going through trying situations to see You in action for them and rely on You for total victory.
