TOPIC: THE GREAT REWARDER

MEMORY VERSE:
"Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9,KJV).

Today's Text:
Ruth 2:4-17

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Romans 8:22-39
Genesis 23-24

MESSAGE:

Ruthhad followed her mother-in-law to the land of Israel to care forher despite the heavy personal cost it would imply. Naomi had told her that the possibility of her remarrying in Israel was very
slim. As an old woman, she had not many days to live and when she dies, Ruth will be left lonely and helpless. Of course, they were going to live as poor people since they were going to a land they didn't plant in. So, how would they harvest? Moreover, Ruth, as a Moabite lady, may be seen and treated as an outcast for the Law forbids Moabites from the congregation of Israel for ten generations (Deut. 23:3). The future indeed was bleak for Ruth yet she was willing to go and suffer for the sake of her mother-in-law.

Sometimes, we are discouraged from doing good works because we see
no prospect of a reward. This is wrong because every act of kindness,
especially, to the needy, is service rendered ultimately to God (Prov.19:18). God does not fail to pay and He pays well. Divine reward may notcome when you expect it; and where you sow may not be where you will reap. In Israel, Ruth decided to go to people's farms to pick leftover grains as the law permitted the widows, the orphans and strangers to do. In thefarm of Boaz where she went to glean, the big man noticed her for her
diligence and inquired about her identity. He was told that she was the Moabite that followed Naomi to Bethlehem to care for her. Boaz blessedher for her kindness towards her mother-in-law and later married her.

God rewarded Ruth. She moved from being a poor lady picking leftover grains in another man's farm to being the owner of the farm herself. She got married to the man who respected and valued her. The generational curse upon her life was revoked. She ceased to be an outcast. Instead, God brought her into the messianic lineage. In Christ's genealogy, onlyfour women featured and Ruth is one (Matt. 1:1-16).

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
Whatever you do, especially, to the needy is a service ultimately rendered to God.

PRAYER
Father, help me to look beyond the present circumstances in deciding to render any service to humanity.
