TOPIC: CARE LIKE HE CARES

Read Matthew 14:13-21

MEMORISE

And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick

(Matthew 14:14).

EXPOSITION
Most men offer good deeds when they are sure of an equally good reward. Only a few will dare render a kind gesture out of sheer self - sacrifice. Yet, the scriptures sing loudly on what should be the disposition of men whose hearts have been stirred by God - disturbing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality ( Romans 12:13).
The godly man must keep on doing good in the face of intimidating odds. Jesus' compassion was not diminished by the cruel murder of His cousin, John the Baptist, by Herod. He continued in the ministry, healing the sick and doing good. He did not allow the cruelty of some people to overshadow the love He had for the multitude that He demonstrated His power to provide for, when He fed five thousand with two fishes and five loaves of bread. Had He begun to sulk over the cruel death of John, He would not have advanced the work of His Father, and those in the multitude who heard the Word of God would not have had the opportunity.
As believers, we must know that persecution cannot jeopardise the spread of the gospel. In our text, we see that the multitude did not panic, grumble or stage a protest when their stay with Christ had stretched far into the night without any hope of provision for food. They knew that with Jesus, there will always be a way out of a perplexing situation. The challenges we face in life must never deter us from doing good, especially in proclaiming the gospel to sinners. Our consolation must always come from the fact that He who has sent us on a godly errand, has the capacity to save to the end.
PRAYER POINTS
1. In this period of economic recession, give us, oh Lord, the grace to trust You to the very end.
2. All believers that are passing through difficult situations, Lord hold their hands so that they won't fall.
3. Lord God, remove the spirit of murmuring and complaining from Your church.
