TOPIC: TEMPTED TO TAKE REVENGE?
Read: Romans 12:19-21
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay,
There are times when doing nothing demands greater strength than taking action. Some years ago, the strength of American military; the only superpower, left after the fall of the USSR was provoked by the little or no-strength, poverty-stricken and war-torn country of Somalia. America had sent their soldiers to help in stopping the ravaging war in the country. However, the moment of embarrassment and humiliation to the superpower came, when Staff Sgt. William David Cleveland was captured by the Somali militias. They killed him and dragged his body around on the street of Mogadishu. America could have rained fire-brimstones on them and teach them a lesson they would never forget. But instead, they withdrew all their soldiers from the country. Kofi Annan rightly said, "The best way to use force is to show force in order not to use it.
Maintaining composure is often the best evidence of power. When Jesus was falsely accused and fiercely attacked, He responded with deep, unbroken silence. His silence was so profound, it caused His accusers and spectators to wonder in awe. To the greatest insults, the most violent treatment, and to mockery that would bring righteous indignation to the feeblest of hearts, He responded with voiceless, confident calmness. Those who are unjustly accused and mistreated without cause, know the tremendous strength that is necessary to keep silent and to leave revenge to God.
Men may misjudge your aim, Think they have cause to blame, Say, you are wrong; Keep on your quiet way, Christ is the Judge, not they, Fear not, be strong. (Anonymous)
Paul was hurt by what people said and did, but he said, None of these things move me (Acts 20:24 KJV). He did not say, None of these things hurt me.
1. Lord, I pray that you will give me the grace to maintain my composure in the face of opposition.
2. Lord I ask you to vindicate me and put to shame those who band themselves together to attack me.
3. I declare all the verbal weapons against me null and void in Jesus' name
