_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_

*WHY YOUR PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED*
*TEXT:* JOHN 16:23-33.
_*KEY VERSE* "And in that day ye shall ask me anything. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he will give it you" (JOHN 16:23)._

Sometimes, we think that we receive answers to prayers because of our fervency or intensity of praying. It could even become something of pride to some believers that when they prayed for themselves or for other people, they received answers.

All these are, of course, good, but not nearly good enough alone to attract answers to prayers from God. More than anything else, Christians receive answers to prayers because of the nature of God and our Lord Jesus Christ. We should always direct our prayers to our Father in heaven through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. He assures us that when we do this, we will receive answers that give fullness of joy.

God loves and appreciates us because we love Jesus Christ. We have no doubt who He is, where He came from and to where He has returned. We express our faith in Christ as the One who alone has power to save us from sin. We believe His every word, including when He is foretelling the future. It is in Him that we find peace in all circumstances.

Jesus' sacrifice at Calvary grants us direct access to God. We no longer need to go through any other medium, or count on our merit, sacrifice and service, or solely on our faith and fervency in prayer. Instead, we come to the Father confidently knowing that Jesus has made us acceptable to God. The Father grants our requests, not for our sake, but because of His dear Son, Jesus Christ. You must, therefore, make Him your Lord and Saviour, to be assured of answers to your prayers.

*THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* Jesus is the key that unlocks the treasure trove of heaven.

*BIBLE IN ONE YEAR* EXODUS 5-7.

*MEDITATION*

A secret that makes prayer easier

*1. The former mode of disciples' prayers*
a. When Christ was on earth, the disciples never prayed to the Father except to Christ alone, v24.
b. At that time, Jesus only presented their requests to the Father for them while the disciples just looked on, v26.
c. This affected them at the garden of Gethsemane when Jesus had to concentrate on His own challenge and the disciples were expected to pray to the Father. They failed and fell into temptation because they have not learnt how to pray to the Father directly, Matthew 26:36-43.
*Q* Have you learnt how to effectively pray to God directly or you are still solely relying on prayer warriors or men of God to pray for you?
*Challenge* Develop your prayer life and learn how to connect with heaven directly to receive answers to your prayers
*2. The new normal mode that will always bring answers*
a. The new normal mode is to pray to the Father according to the command, name or authority of Jesus, vv23, 24, 26. It is like saying, "Father, Jesus asked me to ask You and I hereby ask in obedience to Him...". Denial of answers to your prayer by the Father is tantamount to denial of Jesus by the Father. The Father will never say NO to Jesus.
b. You must have a sonship spirit and see God as your Father in order to have answers to all your prayers. The disciples did not see God as the Father until Jesus resurrected and came back to them "in that day", vv23, 25,26,27, John 14:8,9. Read John 1:12 and Galatians 4:6 on how to receive sonship spirit.
*Q* Is the Holy Spirit bearing witness in your heart that you are a child of God? This is one of the evidence of salvation and forgiveness of sins, Romans 8:16.
*Q* Do you see God as your Father and not otherwise? That is the secret of answered prayers and evidence of salvation.
*3. Those prayers that God will not deny His children*
a. He will answer *all prayers* of children to the Father, v23.
b. Wait a minute. The prayer must be such that it will add to your joy. If you want it and God sees that it will not add to your joy or it will bring sorrow to you later, He may declined as you expect from a loving Father, v24.
c. He will keep on answering until your joy is *full*, v24. That means unlimited answers to prayers.
d. God will answer all prayers that are borne out of love for Jesus, vv26,27. Once the prayer points agree with what Jesus came to do on earth, be assured of answers.
*Summary* If you want immediate answer to your prayer, be sure you have a sonship relationship with God, it is offered to the Father in accordance to the command of Jesus, heaven has confirmed it will add to your joy and it is in line with what Jesus came to give humanity on earth.

*Prayer points*
God, I want to be your son. I hereby repent from all my sins and ask Jesus to come into my heart. Give me the sonship spirit now
Lord, give me more revelation and assurance of your Fatherhood in my spirit
Father, give me the grace that will be coming to you with simplicity of faith as a son to his Father
Teach all your children how to pray and be more prayerful

*HYMN* Sweet hour of prayer
